The NIA Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office started the new year by handing over the Tangalan Communal Irrigation System (CIS) to the Tangalan Irrigation Service Association on January 9, 2024, at Brgy. Tagas, Tangalan, Aklan.
The 20-million project was completed in December 2023 to provide efficient irrigation services to the Municipality of Tangalan serving 465 farmers and 344 hectares of agricultural land in the municipality.
On behalf of ACIMO’s Acting Division Manager Engr. Raymond B. Mojares, Sr. Engineer Julieta E. Gallardo led the turnover of the Key of Responsibilities and Acceptance to Tangalan Mayor Hon. Gary Fuentes. The Tangalan CIS was then formally given to the Irrigators' Association, which was represented by IA President Mr. Edgardo V. Tala-oc.
The signing of the Certificate of Acceptance, Project Completion Report, and the Certificate of Test-Run also commenced right after the acceptance of the key responsibilities.

Mayor Fuentes highlighted the significance of restoring the Tangalan CIS and anticipated an increase in harvest in the area, with full assistance from the LGU of the Municipality of Tangalan to the Office of the Punong Barangay and the Irrigators' Association. He also conveyed his appreciation to the NIA management for prioritizing the project.
Tangalan CIS' sustainability over time shows the strength of local efforts in dealing with major concerns and supporting long-term development. The system not only secures livelihoods for local farmers but also shifts the community toward a more successful and resilient future. The success of this communal irrigation system exemplifies what can be accomplished when communities unite together with a shared goal for long-term progress and agricultural prosperity.
