January 28, 2024 in Pandan, Antique, the National Irrigation Administration - Antique Irrigation Management Office (NIA-AIMO) successfully turned over the Fragante Communal Irrigation System to FRABUBACANA IA.
This infrastructure project, covering a Firmed-up Service Area of 201 hectares, was funded through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) to support local farmers in improving their productivity and livelihoods. The turnover ceremony was led by Engr. Bernard N. Castellano, Division Manager A of Antique-IMO, along with officials from the NIA Central Office - CARP-IC, Engr. Wilhelm S. Tiangco, Acting Project Manager, Engr. Alfred D. Amoloria, Manager, Engineering Division, Engr. Leah Pearl O. Santoile, Senior Engineer A, Charina Rose A. Valino, Senior Corporate Planning Specialist, Maria Renette J. Basa, Senior IDO Chantel Dane P. Nolasco, Senior Artist Illustrator. Also in attendance were Mrs. Anabelle Ganzon from the DAR Region 6 and from the LGU of Pandan represented by Ms. Florime Y. Olandres, Municipal Agriculturist.

The primary objective of the project is to boost food production through a clustered, irrigated rice production system. By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, this initiative aims to significantly contribute to rural poverty reduction, particularly in Barangay Fragante, the main beneficiary of the Communal Irrigation System. With a more reliable and efficient water supply, farmers will be able to increase their yields, enhance food security, and improve their overall livelihoods.
As the farmers of the FRABUBACANA IA take charge of the irrigation system, the collaboration between NIA, DAR, LGUs, and the farming community continues to strengthen efforts toward sustainable agricultural development.
