SUSTAINING AGRICULTURE: THE TURNOVER OF THE GUIA COMMUNAL IRRIGATION PROJECT IN MAAYON, CAPIZ

A Turnover activity for the New Guia Communal Irrigation Project was conducted on April 24, 2024, at the Barangay Hall of Brgy. New Guia, Maayon, Capiz. With the presence of the NIA-ACIMO’s Division Manager Engr. Raymond B. Mojares, OIC of Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer of Capiz Ms. Alona D. Albances, Barangay Officials-headed by PB Liwayway A. Balpongo, and the Agrarian Reform Cooperatives of New Guia led by their ARC President Mr. Modesto Baladjay.

The construction of the check-type dam and its canal structures, with a length of 1.2931 kilometers in Main Canal 1, and 1.3042 km in Main Canal 2, is projected to help sustain 25 hectares of agricultural land in the Municipality of Maayon, benefiting 33 farmer-beneficiaries, particularly during this drought season.

 

The New Guia Communal Irrigation Project in Maayon, Capiz, represents resilience and optimism for farmers facing climatic uncertainty and El Niño difficulties. This initiative, funded by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program - Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) and made possible by the NIA-Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office (NIA-ACIMO), headed by the Division Manager, Engr. Raymond B. Mojares seeks to minimize the effects of drought and enable local farmers to cope with climate shifts while maintaining ongoing agricultural growth.
