
The turnover ceremony for the newly completed slope protection project in Tangalan took place on October 10, 2024, at Tondog, Tangalan, Aklan. The event marked the successful completion of a project aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and providing crucial support to the local farming community.
The 68-meter slope protection rehabilitation for the Tangalan Communal Irrigation System, completed on July 14, 2024, will benefit 418 farmer-beneficiaries and cover a service area of 344 hectares.
The ceremony began with welcome remarks from Hon. Henry Cuanico, Barangay Captain of Tondog, Tangalan, Aklan, followed by a message from Vice Mayor Hon. Gene T. Fuentes, representing the Municipal Mayor of Tangalan. Both officials expressed their gratitude to those in attendance and emphasized the project's significance in serving the farmers. Engr. Jose Carlo Dailisan provided a brief project overview, and anticipated positive impacts on the farming community, particularly in enhancing agricultural productivity and securing a reliable water supply for the farms.

Engr. Raymond B. Mojares, Division Manager of the NIA Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office, led the symbolic handover of the project to Mr. Edgardo V. Tala-oc, President of the Tangalan Irrigators Services Association, Inc. (TISA). Mr. Tala-oc expressed his gratitude to NIA for the successful completion of the project and committed to ensuring its continued success in supporting improved agricultural practices.
Also in attendance, were Ms. Romina Rose Balderas, representing the Municipal Agricultural Office, and Hon. Ariel T. Tala-oc, Barangay Captain of Brgy. Tagas, Tangalan, Aklan, shared messages of support for the initiative.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Mrs. Virginia Traje, IA Treasurer, who reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining the long-term sustainability of the slope protection project. Farmers are optimistic that the fully operational slope protection will lead to increased crop yields and a brighter future for the agricultural community of the Tangalan Communal Irrigation System.
