
The Engineering and Operations Division (EOD) Operations section of NIA Regional Office VI successfully conducted the CY 2023 Inventory of Irrigation Systems from January 17-19, 2024, at the ISAT University, Miag-ao Campus, Iloilo.
The annual undertaking is a crucial component of the agency's commitment to collecting and validating irrigation data, and ensuring the accuracy and currency of the Online Inventory of Irrigation System (OIIS) in compliance with Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 47 series of 2012 and No. 146 series of 2022.
The three-day workshop, attended by key personnel, Engineering and Operations chiefs from the Regional Office, and Irrigation Management offices (IMO), sought to update the status of the region's irrigation development as of December 31, 2023. The focus extended to both NIA-assisted (national & communal) and private irrigation systems, with coordination from BSWM & BAFE to cover other government agencies' irrigation systems. This activity holds immense significance in the overall Operation and Maintenance (O&M) performance and development programs of NIA Region VI.


The virtual presence and support of NIA-Central Office's SMD Division Manager Engr. Wilhelm S. Tiangco, Principal Engineer A Engr. Lourdes J. Garriga, Supervising Engineer A Engr. Anne Bernice C. Baetiong, and Computer Programmer Irvin Mesa enhanced the collaborative efforts. Spearheaded by Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres, through EOD Manager Engr. Robertino O. Lapeña and Operations Section Chief Principal Engineer C Engr. Edna L. Señadoza, the activity aimed to streamline and strengthen the office’s inventory process.
During the workshop, SMD Principal Engr A Engr. Garriga emphasized the importance of all IMOs presenting irrigation system inventory data, including the completed and validated Farmland Geographic Information System (FGIS) results. Additionally, EOD Manager Lapeña underscored the need for cooperation to present CY 2023 accomplishments and achieve the set objectives.
The presence of Regional Office Section Chiefs, including Engr. Rebecca F. Grana of the Construction Section and IDS Community Relations Chief Ms. Joy Babiera, alongside key personnel from Aklan-Capiz IMO, Antique IMO, Iloilo-Guimaras IMO, and Negros Occidental IMO, further contributed to the success of the activity. The delegates’ active involvement reflects the collaborative spirit essential for the effective implementation of irrigation system inventory updates.
