OCD, PA CONVENE WITH NIA FOR PANAY DAM PROOJECT

Iloilo City - Office of Civil Defense Western Visayas (OCD) Regional Director, Raul E. Fernandez and Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division (PA 3rd ID) Commander, MGEN MARION SISON convened with the NIA Region VI Acting Regional Manager, Engr. Jonel B. Borres together with Engineering and Operations Division Manager, Engr. Robertino O. Lapeña, Regional Office VI staff, and Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage II staff at the NIA Regional Office earlier today, December 5, 2023.

The meeting with the OCD and PA was conducted to discuss the updates and status of the Panay River Basin Integrated Project (PRBIDP) to be implemented in Tapaz, Capiz, particularly the area coverage of the project.

The convergence with OCD and PA is one of the steps taken by the NIA to ensure that all aspects of the project are covered and that all National Government Agencies concerned are on board to assist should some issues need to be addressed.

Principal Engineer C Jessa A. Resol, Section Chief of the NIA VI Planning and Design Section, presented the current updates of the project, touching on the activities currently being done as well as the activities that have been done for the Detailed Engineering and Design Phase of the project.

Engr. Rey Bade, Geodetic Engineer of the NIA VI, presented the maps showing the area coverage of the project as well as the boundaries of the military reservation and Indigenous Peoples’ area that are directly and indirectly affected by the project.

MAJ BEAUREGARD D WANASEN of the 3rd ID PA presented the Camp GEN MACARIO PERALTA Military Reservation covering Jamindan, Capiz extending to the areas of Tapaz, Capiz, and a portion of Brgy. Cabatangan, Lambunao, Iloilo. The military reservation information from the PA is necessary for identifying the barangays and populations also covered by PRBIDP.

Once completed, PRBIDP shall be the biggest irrigation development project in the Region. It aims to irrigate 26,800 hectares of farmland in the Province of Capiz to benefit 25,046 farmers.
