LEADERSHIP CHANGES IN NIA REGION VI: RM ENGR. AVANCE REASSIGNED, JRMP 2 PM ENGR. BORRES ASSUMES ROLE

Engr. Rory F. Avance, who had been serving as the Regional Manager of NIA (National Irrigation Administration) Region VI, has been reassigned to NIA Region VII as per the directive of NIA Office Memorandum 200 s. 2023. Stepping into his shoes is Engr. Jonel Borres, who concurrently holds the position of Project Manager for Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage II (JRMP 2. This transition of leadership was formalized through NIA Office Memorandum 201 s. 2023.

The ceremonial oath-taking and virtual handover event for Engr. Avance's new role as the Regional Manager of NIA Region VII took place on August 25, 2023. Presiding over the event was NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen. A turnover ceremony was held on August 26, 2023, with Engr. Borres officially assuming the role of Acting Regional Manager of NIA Region VI also presided by NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen.

Engr. Avance has had a distinguished tenure as the Regional Manager of NIA Region VI, commencing on October 14, 2020. During his tenure, he spearheaded numerous significant initiatives, most notably the Cabano Small Reservoir Irrigation Project—a key irrigation development project in the island Province of Guimaras, as well as the Bayuyan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in President Roxas, Capiz. Beyond these accomplishments, he demonstrated strong leadership in executing various repair and rehabilitation projects across the region, fortifying irrigation services and operations, advocating the implementation of innovative Solar Pump Irrigation Projects, proposing new multipurpose projects in the region, and pushing for accelerated progress of the detailed engineering design of the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project, among other notable achievements.

As Engr. Borres takes the reins, the region looks forward to leveraging his expertise and leadership acumen, especially given his concurrent involvement in the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage II. This transition in leadership marks a strategic shift in driving forward NIA's mission to enhance agricultural productivity through effective irrigation and water resource management.
