The National Irrigation Administration Regional Office VI, under the leadership of Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres, and Aklan-Capiz IMO’s Division Manager, Engr. Raymond B. Mojares, addressed the threat of El Niño in the Municipality of Dao, Province of Capiz.
On March 8, 2024, NIA-Aklan-Capiz IMO conducted a test run of the Matagnop Solar Pump Irrigation Project (Pump 1 and Pump 2), funded by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC), in Barangay Matagnop, Dao, Capiz.

Representatives from the Department of Agrarian Reform, Local Government Unit, Coop Board of Directors, farmer members, NIA Regional Office VI, and NIA Aklan-Capiz IMO witnessed the successful test run of the project. The SPIP will help mitigate the effects of El Niño and irrigate 30 hectares of agricultural land in the Municipality of Dao, benefiting 33 farmer-beneficiaries.
As NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo "Eddie" Guillen actively calls for sustainable solutions to help Filipino farmers lessen the impact of El Niño on agricultural productivity, NIA-Region VI strictly conducts dam monitoring operations and will continue to do so for the building of climate-change-adapting infrastructures. Additionally, the agency continuously collaborates with other government agencies to avert the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
