NIA VI SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHES THE 29 PESO PER KILO RICE

The National Irrigation Administration Region VI proudly launched the P29 per kilo rice program earlier today at the NIA Gymnasium in Barangay Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City. This initiative, providing 10-kilogram bags of rice at the subsidized price of P29 per kilo was made possible by the NIA’s Rice Contract Farming Program and is aimed at supporting the province's vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, and 4Ps members.

The event was led by NIA VI Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres, who also took the opportunity to thank those instrumental in making the event a success. He acknowledged the hard work of the Irrigators' Associations and farmers who tirelessly contribute to ensuring food security in the country.

The launching in the region was simultaneously done with the Grand Launching of Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice held in the Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija spearheaded by NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen, Speaker of the House of Representatives Martin Romualdez, and Cong. Elizaldy Co.

In conjunction with the launch, NIA VI also had a Kadiwa ng Pangulo store, where farmers showcased and sold their fresh produce, processed foods, and other local products. This store is part of NIA's effort to support farmers by cutting out middlemen, thus reducing additional costs and enhancing market reach.

The event was attended by key figures including IMO Division Managers Engr. Randy C. Alipis (Iloilo-Guimaras IMO), Engr. Bernard N. Castellano (Antique IMO), Engr. Raymond B. Mojares (Aklan-Capiz IMO), Confederation of IAs Region VI President Joseph Renato Amponin, Acting Division Manager of Engineering and Operations Engr. Rebecca F. Grana, Division Manager of Administrative and Finance Ms. Lyn Grace B. Causing, section chiefs, Department of Agriculture - Western Visayas Supervising Agriculturist Ms. Mae Ann Grajo, Irrigators' Association representatives, and NIA personnel.

As the current administration advances agricultural sustainability and productivity, NIA remains dedicated to supporting Filipino farmers through innovative irrigation services and strong collaborative efforts with the farmers.
