NIA VI ATTENDS PAN-AY RIVER WATERSHED FOREST RESERVE (PRWFR) 3RD QUARTER PAMB MEETING

The National Irrigation Administration Regional Office VI (NIA VI) participated in the recently concluded 3rd Quarter Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) Meeting for the Calendar Year 2024, held at the Tapaz Municipal Hall in Tapaz, Capiz on September 27, 2024.

NIA VI’s attendance, led by Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres is crucial as the office spearheads the implementation of the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project (PRBIDP) in the Municipality of Tapaz, Capiz. The participation ensures that the project aligns with provincial objectives and local environmental considerations. The PAMB plays a pivotal role in facilitating the implementation of projects that overlap with protected areas, such as the PRBIDP, particularly within the jurisdiction of the Capiz protected area.

The NIA Region VI presented the current status and updates of the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project (PRBIDP) to the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB). During the meeting, the PAMB Chair recommended that NIA Region VI formally apply for membership to the board through an official letter. The application will be subject to review by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and upon approval, PAMB will issue a resolution to officially recognize NIA Region VI as a member.

In the context of the PRBIDP, the PAMB of Capiz is essential for balancing the developmental goals of the project with the conservation needs of the protected area.
