NIA REGION VI GREENS BAROTAC VIEJO WATERSHED

The National Irrigation Administration Region VI conducted a tree planting activity as NIA Anniversary Celebration’s Simultaneous Nationwide Annual Tree Planting Activity.

Trees. Water. Life. – Greening the Philippines the NIA Way, is the yearly theme of the activity. It is the goal of NIA to rehabilitate and maintain the water sources of its irrigation systems that deliver water to the farmlands in the province.

The Regional Office VI planted 1,500 trees along the riverbank of Barotac Viejo River in Brgy. Rizal, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, which is within the Barotac Viejo watershed area. Barotac Viejo watershed was identified as one of the critical watersheds in the country. It is the water source of Barotac Viejo River Irrigation System, one of the biggest irrigation systems in the province of Iloilo.
