
Iloilo City, September 25, 2024 – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VI Acting Regional Manager, Engr. Jonel B. Borres, hosted key officials today, including Assistant Secretary of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President Mr. Lorenzo “Jun” Sagucio and Police Regional Office-Western Visayas Director, Police Brigadier General Jack L Wanky, to discuss strategic partnerships aimed at advancing irrigation projects in the region.
During the visit, ASec Sagucio discussed with Engr. Borres the opportunities arising from the recent transfer of NIA under the Office of the President through Executive Order No. 69, s. 2024. ASec Sagucio emphasized the support the President’s Office could offer to ensure the success of NIA’s irrigation programs, which play a crucial role in agricultural development and food security.

Meanwhile, PBGEN Wanky reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to securing NIA's major irrigation projects. The discussions focused particularly on the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage 2 in Calinog, Iloilo, and the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project (PRBIDP) in Tapaz, Capiz, two of the largest irrigation projects in Western Visayas. Security measures for pre-construction activities and ongoing project implementation were also explored to ensure smooth and uninterrupted progress.
These high-level engagements highlight the growing collaboration between NIA, the Office of the President, and law enforcement agencies to support sustainable agricultural growth through reliable irrigation infrastructure.
