NIA NEGROS OCCIDENTAL IMO JOINS NATIONWIDE TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY IN CELEBRATION OF NIA'S 60TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

In commemoration of the 60th founding anniversary of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), the Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office (NOIMO) led by Division Manager Engr. Isaias C. Melendez, actively participated in a nationwide tree-planting event held under the National Greening Program (NGP). The activity, which took place at Spur 19 in Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, aimed to promote the preservation of nature and sustainable agriculture, in accordance with Executive Order 23 Series 2011 and Executive Order 193 Series of 2016.

The NOIMO and its personnel joined forces with various partner agencies, including the Local Government Unit of Salvador Benedicto, Ms. Ginalyn Ecraela and staff of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Bago City, and Mr. Roger Rebatado of the Don Salvador Benedicto Agricultural Forest Farmers Association (DSBAFFA). Together, they planted a total of 500 seedlings comprising various endemic tree species.

The seedlings were generously provided by the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office, CENRO Kabankalan, CENRO Bago City, and DSBAFFA. This collaborative effort signifies the commitment of different stakeholders to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The tree planting activity aligns with the theme of the event, "Tao, Agrikultura at Kalikasan para sa Progresibong Kaunlaran" (People, Agriculture, and Environment for Progressive Development).

The NGP, initiated by the government through Executive Order 26 in 2011, seeks to rehabilitate and reforest degraded forestlands, protected areas, and ancestral domains across the country. By planting trees, the program aims to mitigate the effects of climate change, enhance biodiversity, and improve the resilience of ecosystems.

With the successful completion of this tree planting activity, NIA Negros Occidental IMO and its partner agencies have taken a significant step toward achieving a greener and more sustainable future.
