NIA IMT CONTRACT SIGNING REPESENTS PROGRESS IN AGRICULTURAUL ADVANCEMENT

An important moment unfolded as the National Irrigation Administration-Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office (NIA-ACIMO) took a significant step towards enhancing the relationship between NIA and irrigators’ associations. The occasion centered on the signing of a contract to implement the Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) program. Hosted at Aklan State University-Banga, Aklan, the event was graced by the presence of Engr. Raymond B. Mojares, Division Manager of NIA-ACIMO.

The contract signing drew participation from various stakeholders, including representatives from Irrigation Federations and Associations from ARIS-East, ARIS-West, and Panakuyan, alongside key personnel from NIA-ACIMO such as Engr. Mojares (Division Manager), Engr. Julieta E. Gallardo (Chief of Operations and Maintenance Section), and Ms. Mary Ann Orbita (Head of the Institutional Development Unit).

The IMT program seeks to decentralize the management of irrigation systems. Its goal is to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and equity of agricultural water resource management by delegating irrigation management responsibilities to Irrigation Associations. Moreover, it aims to empower local communities by granting them greater control over water resources and developing a sense of ownership and accountability.

The contractual agreement for the IMT program symbolizes a significant advancement in efforts to support agricultural infrastructure and foster agricultural progress. As the government proceeds with the IMT initiative, all stakeholders must uphold their commitments and responsibilities, creating a culture of collaboration and partnership. By leveraging irrigation infrastructure to drive agricultural development, the IMT program holds the potential to empower communities, enrich livelihoods, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
