NIA DVI ENSURES SUSTAINABLE IRRIGATION SERVICE AMIDST EL NIÑO PHENOMENON

February 28, 2024 - Farmers of the Dumiles Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association and the Barangay Officials of Brgy. Dumiles, San Enrique, Iloilo witnessed the successful test run of the Dumiles Solar Pump Irrigation Project, a significant step of the National Irrigation Administration in mitigating the adverse effects of El Niño.

The solar-powered pump funded by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) is a sustainable solution to ensure uninterrupted water delivery even during the dry season for 12 farmers with a total of 10 hectares of farmland in the municipality of San Enrique, Iloilo.

"Hanggod gid ini mabulig ya sa mga taho ay wala ni ya untat ang tubig sa tig-ilinit, uni gid ini ya nga kinahanglanon sang mga farmers sa amon diri." (This is really important to our community because it ensures continuous water supply during the dry season, it is the vital need of our farmers here)", according to Mr. Elmer Patubo, Vice President of the DARBA.

Division Manager A of Iloilo-Guimaras IMO Engr. Randy C. Alipis and key personnel of the office led the test run to ensure its functionality.

As El Niño threatens agricultural productivity, the NIA, through the leadership of Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen and Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres, remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure food security through innovative solutions.
