
The Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office programmed a series of training on High Value Crops (Vegetable Production) for the IA Model Farm located at Brgy. Jugas, New Washington, Aklan and in connection to the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program. The training commenced on April 20, 2022 with beneficiaries from Jugas Irrigators Association, Inc. headed by IA President Salvador R. Villanueva.
Vicky Jane D. Malumay, Technical Staff from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist served as the resource person for the series of training which is conducted every Friday. She first highlighted the importance of planning, in observance of the drastic effects of climate change. She then proceeded to discuss the activities to be done such as land preparation, cultivation, applying basal fertilizer, disinfection of the area to decrease bacteria or fungi, seed sowing to transplanting and producing organic fertilizer. Organic products will be used in the training to minimize using synthetic fertilizer which causes harm to the environment.
The training helped the farmers to be more knowledgeable about the proper process of farming high-value crops. This training also gave awareness on climate change as organic farming helps alleviate its ill effects.
Facilitators of the training were IDO assigned Mr. Manuelito O. Recasa, Jr., with Organic Agriculture students from Aklan State University and also the interns of ACIMO namely April Gay I. Oquendo, Jonna Mae T. Tambong, and Joel B. Villanueva.
