NIA ACIMO AKLAN TURNS OVER BUENAVISTA CIP TO BUENAVISTA IA

The National Irrigation Administration Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office (ACIMO), under the management of ACIMO Division Manager Engr. Lorena B. Sioco, turned over the Buenavista Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) to Buenavista Irrigators Association on March 3, 2022 held at Brgy. Buenavista, Ibajay, Aklan.

Present in the momentous occasion were the barangay council of Buenavista headed by Hon. Nitchelda Sonon, Municipal Agriculture’s Office headed by Mr. Joven Seville, Buenavista IA Board of Directors and members, and NIA Irrigators Development Officers and Project-in-Charge headed by Engr. Julieta E. Gallardo.

Engr. Gallardo led the ceremony and passed the symbolic key of responsibility to the IA represented by their acting President Hon. Francasios M. Masula.

The project generates irrigated area of 12 hectares serving 35 farmer-beneficiaries.

Barangay Buenavista has an existing dam but due to non-functional and damaged structures, the said dam was not operational. According to farmers, they had experienced drought most especially during dry season and production was greatly affected in the absence of irrigation.

The construction of the project is very essential to the farmers of Brgy. Buenavista. It is now their primary source of irrigation. According to the IA officers, they can now have their regular cropping (wet and dry) and are expecting higher rice production to improve their quality of life.
