
A Joint System Management Committee Meeting for the Bago River Irrigation System and Pangiplan River Irrigation System was held at the HOD Hall, Capitol Building, Bacolod City. Organized by the Provincial Governor of Negros Occidental, Hon. Eugenio Jose “Bong” V. Lacson and in collaboration with the NIA Negros-Occidental IMO under the leadership of Division Manager A Engr. Isaias C. Melendez.
The activity focused on the importance of LGU’s roles in ensuring the wellbeing of irrigation facilities for improved irrigation services. The Local Government Units are recognized as one of the most important stakeholders of NIA and their active participation is necessary in ensuring that no illegal activities are being done on any irrigation structure or facility that may hamper the quality or service delivery.
The following resolutions were adopted to enhance irrigation services:

1. To end the dumping of garbage in irrigation canals.
2. To stop illegal quarries within 1-kilometer radius from diversion dams and other major irrigation structures.
3. Request for LGU’s assistance in controlling illegal settlers along irrigation canals.
4. To request LGUs to improve Service Roads.
Also present to show their commitment were representatives from the Local Government Units of Bacolod City, Murcia, La Carlota, Binalbagan and San Enrique and from the line agencies of NIA R6 including PhilRice, PCIC, PENRO, OPA, FIACN-BRIS and FIACN-PRIS.
NIA actively partners with the provincial government to enhance irrigation services provided to Filipino farmers and consequently increase agricultural productivity.
