MMT OVERSEES PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENT SAFEGUARDS COMPLIANCE OF CABANO SRIP

The first quarter meeting and monitoring of the Multi-partite Monitoring Team (MMT) for the Cabano Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) was successfully conducted last March 6-7, 2024. The two-day activity held in San Lorenzo, Guimaras served as a collaborative effort towards project management and environmental protection throughout the progress of the project.

The primary agenda of the meeting was to review the actions taken on the issues and concerns raised from the previous meeting. Additionally, the MMT conducted its first on-site visit to fulfill its commitment to ensuring strict compliance with the Environmental Compliance Certificate conditions and the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan throughout the project’s construction phase.

 

Established to oversee compliance with environmental laws, the MMT, chaired by Ms. Catherine Ann L. Gaurana, Municipal Planning and Development Officer of the Municipality of San Lorenzo, plays an important role in safeguarding the environment while on the process of completing the largest irrigation project in the province of Guimaras that would benefit 1,304 farmers.

NIA VI Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres, and Iloilo-Guimaras IMO Division Manager A Engr. Randy C. Alipis expressed their gratitude to the MMT for its diligent monitoring of the environmental aspect of the project. The NIA VI also commits to comply with and follow the recommendations of the MMT for the successful implementation of the project for the Guimarasnons.
