On July 17-18, 2024, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VI conducted a two-day training on Sustainable Nursery Operations and Advanced Nursery Protection Techniques at the Farmers Training Center, San Jose, Antique to enhance the watershed management capabilities of NIA staff.
The training commenced with a warm welcome from Engr. Rebecca F. Grana, Acting Division Manager of NIA VI Engineering and Operations. In her address, she emphasized the importance of the practical application of knowledge, stating, "Knowledge is unimportant unless you put it into use."

A key highlight was the session by Jose Ariel A. Tutor, Associate Professor V at West Visayas State University, who emphasized the role of trees in watershed management. He stated, "Plant the trees in people's hearts first before planting them in the field," underscoring the importance of community engagement and education in environmental conservation. Participants gained practical insights into nursery operations, seedling propagation, pest management, and the integration of native species for ecological restoration.
The interactive workshops fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange among NIA staff, equipping them with the skills to implement sustainable land management practices. As the training ended, participants carried with them not only certificates but also a renewed sense of purpose in safeguarding natural resources.
