
The Public Scoping was held as a requirement for the application of the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) of the said project. Lichel Technologies, Inc, the consultant taking on the Environmental Impact Assessment of the project led by Rachel Vasquez, spearheaded the activity. It was attended by representatives of the directly affected Barangays of Ugasan and Juanico in Barotac Viejo and Brgy. Bubon in Banate, Iloilo.
Representatives from the religious sector, the academe, Irrigator's Association, Sangguniang Kabataan, and LGU of Barotac Viejo and Banate were present during the activity.
Mr. Bonifacio Enorme of DENR-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) attended and discussed the DENR Administrative Order (DAO) 2017-15 and the Coverage of the Public Scoping.
The issues and concerns of the representatives were also discussed such as right of way concerns, project coverage, possible relocation and land acquisition plan, livelihood provision, etc.
The members of the NIA Regional Office VI Environmental Unit and Iloilo-Guimaras Irrigation Management Office were present in the activity.
When completed, Ugasan-Juanico SRIP shall provide year-round irrigation water to 273 hectares of rice land in Barotac Viejo and Banate, which shall help increase the productivity and income of farmers.
The reservoir shall also help alleviate flooding, promote tourism, and encourage aquaculture as means of livelihood for the affected communities.
