IRRIGATION EMPOWERMENT: FEATURING ANTIQUE IMO'S PROACTIVE IA PROVINCIAL CONGRESS

The NIA-Antique Irrigation Management Office orchestrated a significant event on December 14, 2023 – the IA Provincial Congress. This gathering serves as a testament to the vital role of irrigation in the province’s agricultural landscape. Enthusiastically and purposefully held, the congress brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, ranging from farmers and agricultural experts to government officials and community leaders.

The primary focus of this congress was to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and empowerment among Irrigators Associations (IAs) across the province. These associations play a pivotal role in managing and utilizing irrigation systems effectively, ensuring the sustainable cultivation of crops and the enhancement of agricultural productivity in Antique.

Engr. Bernard N. Castellano, Acting Division Manager of the NIA-Antique IMO, warmly welcomed the participants and guests. Ms. Joy A. Babiera, Community Relation Chief-B from the NIA Regional Office, delivered a message emphasizing "One Team- IA and IDP Implementers and strengthening convergence initiatives bringing government programs to the IAs through NIA IDP." Antique Governor Hon. Rhodora J. Cadiao and Vice Governor Hon. Edgar D. Denosta were also present during the IA Congress. The Office of the Governor distributed solar radios and flashlights to farmers for use during calamities and other farming activities.

A video message from Congressman Agapito “AA” Legarda was presented. Different partner agencies from DOLE, NFA, OPA, and PCIC outlined their plans and programs for the year 2024. The NIA Antique IMO also presented the accomplishments of projects for the year 2023 and proposed projects for 2024.

The congress concluded with a sense of enthusiasm and determination, reflecting the commitment of all participants towards fostering a more robust and sustainable agricultural landscape in Antique. The IA Provincial Congress organized by the Antique IMO stands as a shining example of proactive and inclusive community engagement in the agricultural sector. It not only highlighted the importance of effective irrigation management but also showcased the power of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in driving agricultural progress and sustainability in the province of Antique.
