Isn’t it heartwarming and beautiful when we see our farmers sharing their blessings to other members of the community?
Generosity and true essence of community: that’s what we witnessed from the farmer members of the Confederation of Irrigators’ Associations of Region VI when they offered to share their bountiful harvest to communities, especially during this Christmas Season.
Recently, we’ve read stories of how the Negros Occidental farmers offered to sell their rice produce for only 25 pesos per kilo. Now, the members of the Confederation of Irrigators’ Associations of Region VI being led by Mr. Joseph Amponin, collectively decided to not only extend their blessings but to give them for free to the community as a way of paying-it-forward for the blessings they have received during the previous harvest season.
According to Mr. Amponin, the NIA and the Irrigators’ Associations (IA) have always been partners in agricultural development. The success of irrigation service delivery is also the success of the farmers.
100 beneficiary families from Brgy. Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo City received 10 kilograms of rice from the IAs as an early Christmas present titled “Gift Giving / Pasasalamat of Confederation of Irrigators’ Associations of Region VI in Cooperation with NIA Region VI”.
30 representatives came for the ceremonial distribution of rice on November 29, 2023 during the Farmers’ Summit 2023 at the NIA Region VI gym. The other 70 representatives received their rice on a separate event held on November 30, 2023 at the same venue.
Through their Brgy. Kagawad Mr. Mark Malcon, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the farmers who were present in the events. Mr. Malcon stated that the rice is already a big help for the members of their community in sustaining their daily needs.
The NIA and the Irrigators’ Associations (IA) have always been partners in agricultural development. As feeders of the country, there is no better way for the farmers to show the true essence of humanity other than providing the most basic need of the people: food.
