In celebration of NIA’s 59 th Founding Anniversary, the National Irrigation Administration Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office in Aklan, under the management of Engr. Lorena B. Sioco joined
the simultaneous national tree planting activity with the theme: “Trees. Water. Life. Greening the Philippines the NIA Way!”
On June 29, 2022, 84 ACIMO-Aklan personnel planted fruit-bearing trees such as guava, banaba, atis, cacao, pomelo, and kamagong at the Aklan River Irrigation System at Barangay Sigcay, Banga,
Aklan. Tree seedlings were purchased from the Aklan State University and some were given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Some personnel also brought their
own fruit-bearing tree seedlings and replant them near the dam site.
The activity was also in partnership with Tigbawan Irrigators Association, Inc. who planted rain trees and talisay near the dam site of Tigbawan Communal Irrigation System at Barangay Tigbawan, Madalag, Aklan and Kinalangay Irrigators Association, Inc. at Barangay Kinalangay Viejo, Malinao, Aklan.
Through NIA and IAs’ collaboration, a total of 850 tree seedlings were planted and hopefully would bear fruits, provide shade, and protect the environment especially from the drastic effects of
climate change.
