FIRST IMAP CONVENTION HELD TO CONVERGE IDEAS FOR IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT

On August 26, 2023, more than 40 Irrigation Management Office Managers attended the first convention of the IMO Managers Association of the Philippines, Inc. in Iloilo City. To converge ideas for irrigation development, the event sought to set plans and programs towards attaining the main agenda of the agency, which is assisting farmer-beneficiaries through irrigation projects nationwide.

Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen, the agency's Acting Administrator, braced the event as the keynote speaker. He emphasized the importance of IMO Managers in delivering the agency's services to farmer clients. "Hindi po puwedeng wala ako dito ngayon, kasi kumbaga kung sa giyera, kayo ang aking mga general," he said, adding that IMO managers are the ones who know best since they are on the front lines of farmer service.

Engr. Randy C. Alipis, the Division Manager A of Iloilo-Guimaras IMO-the first IMAP President stated that this gathering is one means for the association to strategize its support for the agency's plans and programs for the benefit of farmers and employees.

Engr. Jonel B. Borres, the new Acting Regional Manager of NIA Region VI, welcomed the guests in Iloilo City as the first host province for the IMAP. He voiced his support for the undertakings of the association, and he expressed his congratulations to the members.

The convention began with a plenary session wherein plans and programs were formed, and committees were established.

IMAP believed that holding this convention would allow them to enhance their knowledge by sharing best irrigation practices in project planning, project implementation, irrigation system operation and maintenance, and office management each year.

The event concluded with an oath-taking ceremony for the newly created association's officials and board of trustees.
