To assess the progress of canal repair of Jalaur Extension RIS in Brgy. Medina, Anilao, Division Manager A of NIA-Iloilo-Guimaras IMO, Engr. Randy C. Alipis conducted an inspection today. The damaged canal, particularly the two portions (Portion 1- 240 meters; Portion 2- 80 meters), has been under repair since the effect of Typhoon Goring in the province.
Currently, the repair focused on backfilling works, a crucial phase in the restoration process. Backfilling works involve the replacement of soil and materials to strengthen and stabilize the canal embankment.
According to Engr. Alipis, the repair project is on track, and the office is working diligently to meet the targeted completion date. When good weather permits, the restoration of the damaged canal is expected to be complete by the fourth week of November, allowing affected farmers of 1,703 hectares downstream to proceed with their late second cropping season.
Irrigators’ Associations are also closely monitoring the progress of the repair, with Engr. Alipis’ assurances that all necessary measures are being taken to enhance the canal’s resilience against future natural disasters.
