
NIA-ACIMO’s Aklan River Irrigation System (ARIS)-West Side had a System Management Committee (SMC) Meeting held at the Water Master Technician (WMT) Office, Tabangka, Numancia, Aklan on March 7, 2024.
In attendance is the NIA-ACIMO Operations and Maintenance Section Chief Engr. Julieta E. Gallardo, key personnel from the Operations and Maintenance Section, and Institutional Development Unit. The said meeting was also attended by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, and Municipal Agriculturists from the local government unit of Makato, Numancia, and Lezo, Aklan.
Engr. Gallardo assessed the status of the cropping calendar, the status of farming activities, and the effect of El Niño on the standing crops. She also gave utterances to monitor the water schedule with the help of Irrigators’ Associations while Engr. Carlo Dailisan tackled updates on the canal augmentation project. Municipal Agriculturist of Makato LGU Mr. Jim R. Espiritu, Numancia LGU Ms. Rizza I. Mansayon, and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist as represented by Mr. John Rey N. Solidum presented their Programs and Thrusts.

The meeting aimed to evaluate the present condition of irrigation systems in the ARIS-West, discuss the challenges encountered by the farmers, and develop collaborative plans to improve the management of water resources with the Irrigators’ Association, LGUs, and other relevant parties.
NIA-ACIMO, under the leadership of Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres and Division Manager A Engr. Raymond B. Mojares is committed to serving and giving quality services to the farmers of Aklan and Capiz through various initiatives and collaborations to help increase agricultural productivity and income, as well as to help mitigate the effect of the El Niño Phenomenon.
