BINALBAGAN LGU RECOGNIZES NIA’S ASSISTANCE IN MITIGATING THE IMPACT OF THE MOLASSES SPILL

April 22, 2025 - Hon. Alejandro Y. Mirasol, Municipality Mayor of Binalbagan, coordinated with the National Irrigation Administration – Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office to request assistance to mitigate the impact of the molasses spill that occurred in the Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company (BISCOM) on April 19, 2025. He requested that the Pangiplan River Irrigation System (PRIS) be opened to help increase the water flow of the Binalbagan River.

In response to the mayor’s request, Engr. Edna L. Señadoza, Acting Division Manager of NOIMO, immediately directed to conduct a meeting with the Federation of PRIS Irrigators’ Associations (IA) to provide the needed assistance and open PRIS after issuing notices to the concerned IAs.

The Binalbagan LGU commended the NIA for promptly addressing the concern and providing additional water by opening the Pangiplan River Irrigation System (PRIS). The NIA initially closed the PRIS to conduct Operations and Maintenance activities in preparation for the first cropping season.
