In a proactive move to bolster the agricultural sector's economic growth, Antique Irrigation Management Office (Antique IMO) joined hands with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) to organize a Pre-Registration Seminar. The seminar, held on August 22, 2023, aimed to pave the way for the formation of cooperative entities among Irrigators Associations (IAs), underlining a commitment to accelerate agricultural development within the Municipality of San Jose.
Cooperatives play a pivotal role in fostering mutual growth and prosperity among their members. The seminar, a joint effort of NIA- Antique IMO and CDA, acted as a crucial stepping stone for those aspiring to establish cooperatives. By guiding potential founders through cooperative principles, legal requirements, business planning, governance structures, and operational considerations, the event provided an insightful roadmap for success.
At the heart of this endeavor was the realization that the formation of the Irrigators’ Associations into farmers' cooperatives could lead to agricultural progress. Recognizing this potential, Acting Chief of the National Irrigation Administration, Engr. Eddie G. Guillen, spearheaded the initiative. Guillen's vision resonated deeply with the essence of cooperatives - that collective action can uplift the entire community.

Ms. Lanelyn T. Belicena, Cooperative Development Specialist II was the resource person. With her expertise, she seamlessly navigated through topics crucial to cooperative formation. These included explaining the foundational Cooperative Principles, expounding on the legal framework and regulatory prerequisites, unraveling the intricacies of effective business planning, expounding membership and participation dynamics, and discussing governance, leadership, financial management, marketing, product development, quality control, and member services.
As NIA- Antique IMO and CDA jointly arranged this informative session, it underscored their commitment to driving economic prosperity through collaborative and innovative means.
With the guidance of experts, the participants from CAMAST IA, BISTO IA, and DIVISION A IA were empowered to transform their aspirations into thriving cooperatives that not only advance their interests but also contribute to the holistic growth of the agricultural sector. This partnership between NIA- Antique IMO and CDA marked not just a seminar, but a profound step towards a more resilient and prosperous agricultural community.
