ANNUAL CLEAN UP OF THE BAGO RIVER IRRIGATION SYSTEM

The NIA Negros Occidental IMO under the leadership of Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres and Division Manager A Engr. Isaias C. Melendez conducted an Annual Clean-up of the Bago River Irrigation System together with the Federation of Irrigators Association Central Negros – Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS) on March 1, 2024.

FIACN-BRIS President Mr. Pedro Limpangog led the activity with the IA members and key personnel from the NIA Negros-Occidental IMO. The activity signaled the closure of the Bago River Irrigation System (BRIS) - South District gates to concentrate water delivery in the BRIS North District's five thousand-hectare service area's 3rd cropping season.

The annual clean-up activity was jointly participated by the NIA Negros-Occidental IMO and the 44 Irrigators’ Associations to ensure that irrigation canals and structures are free of debris, silt, and other obstructions that hinder smooth water delivery and distribution and to mitigate the effect of El Niño phenomenon and increase production and farmers income.
