In relevance with today’s digital age, where technology is utilized in every aspect of our lives, even in government offices, the National Irrigation Administration Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Aklan Provincial Field Office conducted an Orientation to ACIMO Personnel on Cybersecurity, Data Privacy and Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI).
The orientation was held on April 4-5, 2024 at the ACIMO Conference Room, Linabuan Sur, Banga, Aklan. The activity was actively supported by NIA Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jonel B. Borres, NIA ACIMO Division Manager Engr. Raymond B. Mojares together with the DICT Aklan Provincial Head Mr. Arnold V. Abagat.
Notable resource speakers from the DICT educated the personnel about the importance of cybersecurity best practices and data privacy measures, empowering them to recognize, prevent, and respond effectively to potential security threats and privacy breaches, thereby reducing the organization’s vulnerability to cyber-attacks and safeguarding sensitive information.

Engr. Joshua B. Mellada, Planning Officer of the Cybersecurity PNPKI Unit, presented about Cybersecurity. He gave examples of some cases of how our data are easily accessible to the public and to be more aware of the consequences when sharing sensitive data and information to the cyber world.
Additionally, Mr. Elvin C. Bautista, Administrative Officer III (Records Officer), gave an overview of the Data Privacy Act and lectured on how to safekeep records and important files/data, especially in government offices.
On the second day of the Orientation, Engr. Bautista and Mr. James Lawrence D. Locara, Planning Officer of Cybersecurity PNPKI Unit, oriented about the PNPKI; other legal bases, and its usage, and demonstrated how to apply PNPKI.
At the end of the two-day orientation, ACIMO personnel thanked the DICT for their support and for sharing their expertise about the importance of cybersecurity and data privacy, in our daily lives and for the agency.
