“Ari kami gihapon para mag-suporta,” Engr. Lorena B. Sioco, Division Manager A of Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office said during the ceremonial turnover of Communal Irrigation Systems to the local government units on October 25-26, 2022 at the municipalities of Libacao and Altavas, Aklan.
As part of the agency’s Devolution Transition Plan, two more LGUs accepted the following CISs: Ogsip CIS, Ortega CIS, Sibalew CIS, and Julita-Bonza CIS from Libacao and Talon CIS from Altavas.
In reference to Executive Order No. 138 series of 2021, NIA was mandated to devolve certain functions and services to the LGUs. But as partners in the country's agricultural productivity, NIA will continue to provide support to the Irrigators Associations (IAs) and the LGUs.
The agency programmed to conduct trainings to the LGU’s personnel such as preparation of Feasibility Studies, Program of Works, and institutional development programs to help strengthen IAs’ organization. The IAs can still route their irrigation concerns to NIA through the LGU.
