LEARNING FROM SUCCESS: NIA REGION IV-A EXPLORES COOPERATIVE INNOVATION IN ANTIQUE

The NIA Region IV-A Engineering and Operations Division, led by Engr. Marinel D. Tobias, Acting EOD Manager, visited the NIA Antique Irrigation Management Office (AIMO) as part of the Knowledge Exchange on Entrepreneurial Practices and Innovation (KEEPI). The team was welcomed by Engr. Bernard N. Castellano, Division Manager A, who highlighted the value of collaboration and learning from best practices across NIA offices.

A highlight of the activity was the visit to the Kalipunan ng Magsasaka sa Patnongon (KAMAPAT) Agriculture Cooperative, one of the most successful cooperatives in Region VI.

The group was welcomed by Mr. Henry Michael Gonzalo C. Doliguez, IA President and General Manager, who shared an insightful presentation on the cooperative’s journey. From its humble beginnings, early struggles, and the strategic decisions that led to its sustained growth and success. He also discussed the cooperative’s effective management practices, member-centered programs, and income-generating activities that have strengthened farmers’ livelihoods and ensured long-term viability.

The visit left a strong impression on the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn directly from KAMAPAT’s experience. Inspired by the cooperative’s achievements, the participants gained valuable insights that they hope to adapt and replicate in their respective areas, with the goal of building strong, self-sustaining, and farmer-empowered cooperatives in their own regions.
